Tumultuous

This week has proven to be a tumultuous week for our country.  We went from joyous buzz about a royal wedding (it was fun to watch), to feelings of relief with the death of the master mind behind 9/11, to angst over the news of the other attacks he had been planning, then back to relief that most of those plans were in the first stages with nothing really finalized.  This was not just a victory for the United States but a victory for the whole world. He was responsible for the death of so many people all over the world.   We can only pray that no one was waiting in the shadows to take his place.

There was a lot of talk about remembering where you were on  9/11.  I remember I was in my apartment that I  shared with my cousin.  I had to go to class that afternoon and was sitting on the couch watching a movie when my cousin burst into the apartment and said, "Have you seen what's happened?"  I immediately changed the station and we watched in horror as the second plane was flown into the tower and then, hearts racing as the towers fell.

I didn't know what to say or do.  My cousin kept saying we would go to war.  He was right.  But little did we know that the war we would fight would last this long.  I feel it will be one that will never end.  Mainly because there will always be someone who doesn't agree with our way of life and the freedoms that the brave men and women in our military fight for us to keep everyday.

I wonder about the day when Carter will come and ask me about 9/11.   What will I say to him? He will ask me what I was doing that day and how I felt and what I was thinking.   I hope I will be able to explain about the bad men who did this horrible thing in a way to make him understand that there are also many good people in the world who do amazing and wonderful things. That is what we should focus on. I hope to teach him that he lives in a wonderful world.  I hope he will be proud to call this country his home.
